Why do we light candles in church?

by Admin Office
In a Catholic church, lighting a candle symbolizes prayer, reverence, and a physical representation of one’s intentions or faith. Candles are lit for various reasons, including to pray for others, show devotion to saints, express gratitude for answered prayers, or as a reminder of Christ as the “Light of the World”. The act is considered a sacramental, a tangible way to show a persistent prayer that continues to burn even after the person has left.
