Baptism is the primary and foundational Sacrament of initiation into the Church. Through Baptism a person enters the Body of Christ as a child of God. Receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit in faith, the recipient has gained the promise of eternal life. Baptism serves as the beginning of the Christian life. With infant Baptism, parents play an essential role in forming the child in the ways of faith through example, and witness to gospel life. A preparation class for parents and Godparents is offered quarterly. This class is necessary for first-time parents. Adult candidates enter the process of the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) which culminates at the Easter Vigil after the Lenten fast.
